Description	:	Ernest Girard, 75, of Pittsburg died at 7:55 a.m., Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center of a long illiness. He was born June 18, 1925, in Arma, the son of Octave Girard, Sr. and Lena Dubray Girard. He attended Arma Schools. Mr. Girard was a WWII Navy veteran, entering in Sept. 1943 and was discharged December 19, 1945, as Seaman 1st Class. On Nov. 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ida Mae LaBenne in Girard. Carmel Regional Medical Center of a long illiness. He was born June 18, 1925, in Arma, the son of Octave Girard, Sr. and Lena Dubray Girard. He attended Arma Schools. Mr. Girard was a WWII Navy veteran, entering in Sept. 1943 and was discharged December 19, 1945, as Seaman 1st Class. On Nov. 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ida Mae LaBenne in Girard. She survives him of the home. He was employed by the Pittsburg Fire Department, starting July 14, 1958. In July 1970 he was promoted to the rank of Captain. He retired in June 1985, after 27 years of service. Mr. Girard was also a reserve officer for Crawford County and Frontenac City Police Departments. Membership was held in the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64. Additional survivors include a son Larry Girard of Bonner Springs; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Octave Girard, Jr., two sisters, Alice Garrett and Lucy Wyatt. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at the Friskel Funeral Home with Rev. Verl Strong officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Services and arrangements were under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, KS, 66763.
