Last rites for Ernest Guy Ocheltree, 67, were held at the Dye funeral home Oct. 29, with Gordon Smith in charge of the service. Military rites were held by the American Legion at the graveside. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Mr. Ocheltree died at his home in Tipton Oct. 26 after an illness of 5 months. The son of Raymond and Mildred Rice Ocheltree, he was born at Lime City Jan 22, 1895. He was married to Marjory Hoon in Dixon, Ill. Aug 13, 1923. A mechanic for most of his life, he worked for the Ford garage for 13 years and had been employed by Cedar county until he retired. A veteran of World War I, he enlisted June 19, 1917 and was discharged May 16, 1919. He saw service overseas and was wounded in France July 30, 1918. He was a corporal when he was discharged. One of the first men to volunteer for service, he served in the famed Rainbow division. He was a member of the American Legion in Tipton and held a 40 year membership. He was also a member of the Rainbow club in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife, a son, Keith L., DeWitt; a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Rhoda) Harden, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Bess Wharton, West Liberty, 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Tipton Conservative, Nov. 1, 1962.
