Wipf Jr. He attended country school at rural Hitchcock through the eighth grade. Ernest married Ann Decker on July 20, 1939, near Doland, South Dakota. Wipf Jr. He attended country school at rural Hitchcock through the eighth grade. Ernest married Ann Decker on July 20, 1939, near Doland, South Dakota. They spent their married life in Huron where they raised their three sons, Gerald, Donald and Rodney. Ernest worked for Coca Cola until he joined his father at Wipf's Texaco in Huron and eventually purchased the business with his brother, Elgin. They owned and operated Wipf's Texaco for forty-eight years until their retirement. When their children were very young, Ernie and Ann bought the farm house where they had first met in their youth. They moved the house to Lake Byron where it became "The Lake House." For the next fifty years their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus many friends and relatives skied, swam and played at "The Lake House" creating memories to last a lifetime. Ernie so enjoyed teaching kids and grown-ups how to ski and taking anyone who would go along on a pontoon boat ride all the way around the lake. Ernie and Ann enjoyed going to antique auctions, snowmobiling and square dancing. He loved his "old cars" and evenings spent at stock car races. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Elgin; and his sister, Gladys Hofer. Grateful for having shared his life are Ernest's wife, Ann; their three sons, Gerald and his wife, Mary of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Donald and his wife, Peggy of Seattle, Washington, and Rodney and his wife, Shirley of Yankton, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur and his wife Sara Wipf of Rapid City. Ernest died at the Huron Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, with his wife of sixty-eight years at his side. His funeral service will be Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Bethesda Mennonite Church with the Rev. Rick Wolgamott officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kuhler Funeral Home.
