Description	:	Ernest and his 16-year-old son, Ernest Edwin, were killed in a two-car accident on a county road between Nevada and Maxwell. Mrs. Heckart was hospitalized in Nevada with severe head injuries, broken ribs, and chest injuries. Ernest was the assistant manager of Spahn & Rose Lumber Company in Ottumwa from 1957 until last April when he was transferred to Maxwell to manage a yard for the same company. The family were members of the Calvary Open Bible Church in Ottumwa. In addition to his wife and parents, Ernest was survived by three other children, a daughter, Frances Kae, 15; and two sons, David, 13, and Matthew, 1. One son, Dennis LeRoy, died in infancy. He was also survived by three sisters and four brothers: Henrietta Roe and Genevieve Covert, both of Ottumwa, and Edna Batterson of Marengo; Paul, Stephen and Bert Heckart, all of Ottumwa, and Jack Heckart of Harvey. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva.
