Description	:	Obituary of Earnest L. McLain Earnest Leslie McLain, son of R. S. and Amelia McLain, was born near Utica, Van Buren County. Iowa, March 13, 1881, and died at his home southwest of Birmingham, Iowa, March 1st, aged 38 years, 11 months and 19 days. With the exception of a few years in Missouri he spent his life in this immediate neighborhood, following the occupation of a farmer. Read More	Obituary of Earnest L. McLain Earnest Leslie McLain, son of R. S. and Amelia McLain, was born near Utica, Van Buren County. Iowa, March 13, 1881, and died at his home southwest of Birmingham, Iowa, March 1st, aged 38 years, 11 months and 19 days. With the exception of a few years in Missouri he spent his life in this immediate neighborhood, following the occupation of a farmer. On the 8th day of January, 1903, he was united in holy wedlock with Emma Pearl Williams, and to this union was born seven children. When he was sixteen years of age he united with the Free Baptist church of Utica, and later transferred his membership to the white Chapel Methodist church. His untimely death is mourned by the whole community, and the words of the Prophet are fulfilled in his death: "The sun was set while it was yet day." As a husband and father he was unexcelled, as a neighbor was respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and seven children: Eunice Dale, Lois Elizabeth, Leslie Robert, Thelma Florence, Thomas Harold, Stanley Raymond, Mary Amelia, all at home; his father, R. S. McLain, La Grande, Oregon, and one sister Lottie Elizabeth Cupp of West Plains, Missouri and several other immediate relatives. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to the wife and children in their bereavement; and we commit and commend them to the Grace our Lord Jesus Christ. We can make no attempt to interpret Providence, but believe the Divine wisdom presides over us and the Divine grace makes good whatever may betide and however and however great the sorrow and loss. Funeral services were held at the home on Friday, the 5th, the service in charge of Rev. Roberts of the Birmingham Presbyterian church. The interment was in the White Chapel cemetery.
