The body was brought back to Villisca Friday evening and funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon under the ministration of Revs. Enoch Hill, pastor and T. P. Newland, a close friend of the deceased young man for many years. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Because of its suddenness and the circumstances under which it ensued, Mr. McCoys death is a sad one. He was right in the flash of your manhood, blessed with an unusually keen intellect, strong character, and an apparently healthy body. He had been ill just two weeks before his demise, but an abscess had formed and the operation at the hospital was to no avail. He died with his face toward God, his hands uplifted, and in his intense suffering he was heart to utter this prayer, “Dear Father, forgive any weak hours in my life wherein I might have shed Light more brightly on the pathway of life and have drawn others more closely to the Saviour of men.” An he had the full assurance that God heard and answered his prayer. Then turning to his loved ones, who were present he said, “I am going home. Meet me there. And the youngest life, which had been short but noble, went out leaving a bereaved family, who in their sorrow, may find sweetness in the bitter waters from the knowledge that it went out in glory and to a happier eternity. Mr. McCoy was a good boy. He had no bad habits, and was mortally upright. He was of a quiet and reserved disposition, but when he made a friend, the friend was his always. He was an earnest church worker, being a member of the North Grove Church for many years. He was loved and esteemed by all. Ernest Leveret McCoy was born in Page County, about six miles south of Villisca, January 2, 1886. He attended school in Villisca and fitted himself for the teaching profession, in which he was engaged just prior to his last sickness. He moved to Villisca with his parents to make his home about three years ago. Recently Mr. McCoy had studied to enter the railway mail service, and was to have taken his last examination the first week of April. A friend says, “Although he, himself, is with us no more, we shall keep him in memory for the loving deeds and the beautiful life he has lived at home and main his fellowmen. To father, mother, and sister, whom we have met and learned to love, and others, we extend our deepest sympathy, asking God to give them strength to bear their sorrow, and may they look unto the Father of all and say, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed the name of he Lord. For the form they loved so well has finished its mission on earth and is now singing anthems in God’s praise with the heavenly choir, and may their life be so lived that when God calls, they shall be carried to the home and loved ones who await them there. Mr. MrCoys funeral was attended by a large concourse of people. The church was filled to overflowing and many of the people followed the remains to the cemetery to pay their last loving respects to the one who stood so high in the regard of the community. Mr. McCoy is survived by a father, mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Harrison McCoy and sister, Mrs. Bessie Bowman, who were all with him at the time of his death, and two brothers, Ray and Glen.
