Obituary for Ernest Lyle Powers in the 27 Oct 1923 Mason Valley News (p. 1), Yerington NV: "Ernest L. Powers, who was living on the Van Fleet ranch, near Mason, on the [road] to Nordyke, died very suddenly at his [home last] Monday morning. Mr. Powers had suffered from an attack of influenza about five years ago, but had apparently recovered, but the immediate cause of his death was apoplexy. The stroke came at about ten o'clock in the morning while Mr. Powers was engaged operating a milk separator. Dr. Wm. Edwards was summoned from Mason, and he pronounced death due to apoplexy. About [two weeks] ago Mr. Powers came here from Bishop, California, and was living with relatives on the Van Fleet ranch, where he was employed in the dairy business. Ernest L. Powers was born in Bishop, California, December 22, 1877, and at the time of his death was forty-five years and ten months of age. He spent his [entire life] in his native place, until he recently moved to Nevada. He followed the occupation of farming and was highly esteemed and greatly beloved by his relatives and friends for his upright character, his kind hearted and [cheerful] disposition and his devotion to his family. Mr. Powers was married in 1906 but his wife passed away in 1911 leaving two daughters. Among the bereaved relatives who mourn his [loss] are two daughters, Alice, 15 years, and Mildred, 14 years of age, who are students at the Yerington High School. There are also one brother and five sisters: the brother, W.A. [William Allen] Powers, of Mason, and one sister, Mrs. Ota Van Fleet, also of Mason. The other sisters are: Mrs. Nora Cox of Bishop, California; Mrs. Jessie White, of Raynesford, Montana; Mrs. Melva Carpenter, of Bakersfield, California and Mrs. Myrtle McKellip, of Fresno, California."
