In 1889, age 1, he and his family lived below Steptoe Butt in Whitman County, Washington where his father, Robert was a farmer. In 1900, age 12, he and his family continued to live at Steptoe Butt where they farmed . In 1910, age 22, he lived in a rooming house at 5202 Leay Street and worked as a yard man for the Great Northern Rail Road. On 27 Mar 1911, age 23, he started work as a clerk at the Ballard Train Station at Northern Pacific Railway. On 8 May 1911, age 23, he married Pearl Fulk from Sauk, Wisconsin, her father was David Fulk of Indiana and mother was Francis Bohman of Illinois. The wedding was witnessed by Mrs. LA Peterson and Mecie Burns. The wedding took place in Seattle, King County, Washington. On 21 Mar 1912 they had their first child, Cecil E Burns born in Skagit County, Washington. The child died 27 Sep 1912 in Seattle, King County, Washington. On 1 Jul 1913, age 24, he resigned from Northern Pacific Railway to go into business for himself. They live in Seattle, King County, Washington. On 26 Jul 1914, their second son was born in Skagit County, Washington. On 5 Jun 1917, age 28, he lived in Mount Vernon, Skagit County, Washington and registered for the World War I Draft. He was a laborer / machinist working for Federal Condensed Milk Co. He had a wife and child, was medium height and build with blue eyes and dark brown hair. In 1920 they lived in Fall City, King County, Washington. He may have joined the military, deployed to the Far East and then on his return, departed Manila, Phillipines on 15 Jul 1926. He arrived in San Francisco on a US Transport "Somme" and he was manifested with a group of ex-enlisted single men. After he arrived he resided at 140 Ellis Street, San Francisco, which was probably temporary quarters. In 1930, age 42, he resided as a rooming house, he is listed as single, and is employed as a hatter mechanic. He was not listed as a veteran. In 1942, age 54, he registered for the World War II Draft and was employed by Seattle Tacoma Shipyard, Harbor Island, Seattle. He lived at 528 27th Ave, Seattle, King, Washington.
