Ernie was born July 21, 1932 in rural Aplington, to Tom and Etta (Reiter) Dreesman. His family was large and consisted of Angeline, Ernie, Esther, Eugene, Norma, Fred, Dick, and Larry. Read More	son of Tom and Etta (Reiter) Dreesman Ernest Ubbe Dreesman, age 85, formerly of Waverly died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at The Meadows in Shell Rock. Ernie was born July 21, 1932 in rural Aplington, to Tom and Etta (Reiter) Dreesman. His family was large and consisted of Angeline, Ernie, Esther, Eugene, Norma, Fred, Dick, and Larry. He went to school in Parkersburg and attended there until his parents moved to a farm northwest of Allison where he attended country school. He took his eight grade exams at the age of twelve and then left school to help his parents on the farm. They farmed at several farms around the area and settled in Waverly in 1950. Ernie was baptized in May 1951 at the Baptist Church in Waverly and then married Judith Ingersoll on June 10 of that same year. They had four children, Thomas, Janet, Donald, and Michael, 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. They divorced in 1977. Ernie loved agriculture and first worked as a hired hand at the Epley farm. Eventually, he bought his own farm one mile north of Horton. He also hauled milk for the Plainfield Creamery, worked at the Marshall canning factory, did custom feed grinding, and worked at Shield Bantam for 14 years until his doctor told him he needed to work outside to clear his lungs. At that time, he left the factory and sold Moorman feeds, where he worked his way up to a management position. On January 5, 1985, he married Barbara Pickering of Keystone, Iowa. He moved to Keystone and joined the Lutheran church and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He also gained an additional family and became a step dad to Diane Pickart, Debbie Johnson, Derrick Pickering and Doyle Pickering, along with many more grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the time of their marriage, Ernie was selling Automatic fly control systems and Barb joined him in the business. Together they traveled from farm to farm, selling fly control and Watkins products, and never met a stranger. They lived a full and happy life and enjoyed traveling all over, visiting family and friends, and spending their later years wintering in Arizona. Sadly after 14 winters, Barb’s failing health forced them to return to Keystone. From then on, their trips consisted of many trips to doctors in Cedar Rapids. Ernie and Barb made the best of those trips, and he lovingly cared for Barb, but was very grateful for hospice when they came to help him care for the love of his life. Ernie is survived by his four children, Tom Dreesman of Tama, Don Dreesman of Iowa Falls, Janet Dreesman of Ames, and Mike (Tracy) Dreesman of Cedar Falls, 11 grandchildren, Billy, Tommy, Matthew, Joshua, Shawn Judy, Sonny, Melissa, Natalie, Angela, and Allie, and 26 great grandchildren. Four step children, Dianne (Dick) Pickart of Van Horn, Debbie (Douglas) Johnson of Bonita Springs, Fl., Derrick (Peggy) Pickering of Van Horn, and Doyle (Sharon) Pickering of Mechanicsville, many step grandchildren, and many step great grandchildren; sister, Esther Lageschulte of Shell Rock; four brothers, Eugene (Betty) Dreesman of Clarksville, Fred (Kay) Dreesman of Waverly, Dick (Velda) Dreesman of Waverly and Larry (Mary) Dreesman of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barb in 2009, two sisters, Angeline in 2009, and Norma in 2016, and three brothers and sisters in infancy. Visitation will be held on Monday April 16, at the Kaiser-Corson funeral home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, at 10:30 am at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting with the arrangements. 319-352-1187.
