Description	:	Ernest Willoughby Buchholz, 97, of Ottumwa and formerly of Agency, passed away at 5:15 am June 16, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. He was born south of Ottumwa, Iowa near Pioneer Ridge on February 1, 1915, to B.G. and Edna Orman Buchholz. Read More	Ernest Willoughby Buchholz, 97, of Ottumwa and formerly of Agency, passed away at 5:15 am June 16, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. He was born south of Ottumwa, Iowa near Pioneer Ridge on February 1, 1915, to B.G. and Edna Orman Buchholz. Ernie spent his entire life in Southeast Iowa, living much of the time with his grandparents during his young life. Working all his life on some farm, he was planting corn at the young age of 7. As a young adult, he had many different jobs from working in coal mines in the winter and working on the railroad in the summer, putting in bolts and ties, lining tracks and mowing. When the railroad cut back on workers, he worked at Redman Transfer as well as Nash Finch. Unable to go into the armed services for medical reasons, he did work in CC Camp. He married Bernice Irene Venator on September 2, 1939. He continued to help neighbors farm and also helped his parents farm on the weekends. He later worked at John Morrell & Co. but, took early retirement when the plant closed the Ottumwa facility in 1973. He continued to help farmers in the Agency area, many asking for his advice on what he would recommend they do. Always wanting to own his own farm, farming was a job but, definitely a job he loved ... continuing to critique farmers' fields through the years. Ernie was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church and Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #21 A.F.& A.M. In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by three children, Steven Buchholz of Milpitas, CA, Janice(Harry) O'Dell of Marina, CA, Joyce(Howard)Brewer of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Barry(Abby)Brewer, Melissa(Scott)Blackman, Dan O'Dell and Suzanne O'Dell; three great grandchilderen, Sarah Trainer, Cameron Blackman and Graham Blackman; three brothers, Leslie, Donald and Gene Buchholz. Ernie was predeceased by three brothers, Cecil, Floyd and Robert and seven sisters: Clara "Toots", Edith, Agnes, Olive, Dorothy, Bonnie and Patricia; and his Guardian Angel, his beloved cat, Boots. Funeral sevices will be 2 pm Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Luers and Gary Reeves officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 pm Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 5:30-7:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Oskaloosa, Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties or Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa Home Health Care and Hospice. The family wishes to express their thanks to all the friends, doctors and nurses who helped care for him. A very special thanks to Debbie Arendt, the wife of his nephew, the late Virgil Arendt, for all the devoted care she has given to Ernie and family.
