Description	:	The body of a Saline County man was recovered early Monday morning after he apparently drowned in a farm pond. Redden, 75, of Gypsum, went home to Jesus on Sunday, July 14, 2019. He was born September 17, 1943 in Salina, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Laurina (Peterson) Redden; brothers, Rudy Redden, Warren Redden. Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Eagles) Redden; children, Cindy (Steve) Jancich of Herndon, VA; Mark (Angela) Redden of Gypsum; Rachael (Jon) Doolen of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren, Chris Jancich, Matthew Redden, Ayla Doolen, Zahra Doolen; brother, Galen (Patsy) Redden; sister-in-laws, Marie Redden, Vivian Redden all of Gypsum; sister-in-law Nathalie (Harvey) Morrical of Assaria; brother-in-law David (Jennie) Eagles of Roxbury. Many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Errol graduated from Gypsum High School in 1961 and worked on the Redden family farm. In 1967 he was drafted into the Army and served a year in Vietnam. He volunteered to be in a Long Range Reconnaissance Platoon of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade stationed in the Republic of South Vietnam. For his service to his country he received the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal along with various other medals, attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5. After discharge from service, Errol studied machining at Salina Area Vo-Tech. He worked for Combustion Engineering in Enterprise, KS and Anderson Machine Shop in Smolan, KS. In 1973 he returned to help his brothers with the family farm in Gypsum and operated his machining business, Triple R Machining, on the same site. He loved the detail work of machining and found great joy in creating well made parts. Errol was a Christian man whose faith in God was apparent to all who encountered him. He enjoyed in-depth discussions of scripture and would engage anyone who was interested. While his children were growing up, the family was an active part of the Roxbury United Methodist Church. Most recently Errol has been involved with Christ-Life Ministries and the men’s fellowship group at the Gypsum Baptist Church. Errol was generous with his time and talents. He played the alto saxophone and performed in a saxophone quartet with his three brothers. He volunteered on the rural fire department for 10 years. If there was a job that needed to be done, he was there to lend a helping hand. He was well known for being able to produce the precise tool needed for any job, from the pocket of his work overalls. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. The family will receive friends, relatives and the community at a visitation on Thursday, July 25th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 807 Spring St. Gypsum KS. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. also at First Baptist Church of Gypsum. Burial will be held in Gypsum Cemetery. Like many veterans of the Vietnam war, when Errol came back he just picked up where he had left off. His family did not know the extent of the internal wounds that would show up as the years went by. He eventually opened up more to his family and took the very important step of seeking help for both his physical and mental pain. Errol was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease several years ago. The Parkinson’s symptoms impacted his ability to play music and work on the farm - two things he was very passionate about. He also found comfort in meeting with fellow Vietnam Veterans to help heal his mental wounds. Because of this, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to one of two organizations.
