Sedlacek was born July 6, 1917 at Haddam, Kan., son of Martin and Emma Wiruth Sedlacek, and died at his home east of Toledo, Iowa, November 13, 1981 of an apparent heart attack. He was 64. He served in the 17th Infantry for three years in the South Pacific during WWII as a sergeant, and was honorably discharged in August, 1945, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. Sedlacek was born July 6, 1917 at Haddam, Kan., son of Martin and Emma Wiruth Sedlacek, and died at his home east of Toledo, Iowa, November 13, 1981 of an apparent heart attack. He was 64. He served in the 17th Infantry for three years in the South Pacific during WWII as a sergeant, and was honorably discharged in August, 1945, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. November 25, 1947, he married Bernice Yilek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in Tama, Iowa, for 13 years, where he was employed as foreman for Joslyn Mfg. & Supply Co., a treating plant, until 1960. They then purchased an acreage east of Toledo where he operated a bottled gas business until his retirement in March 1981. He also had a part time farm operation. He was a member of the Toledo American Legion, VFW Post No. 6607, Tama-Toledo Aerie No. 2828. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Victor. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; a son, Barry of Newton, Iowa; two granddaughters; four brother: Henry of Belle Plaine, Iowa, Leo of Corvallis, Ore., Vern of Concordia, Kan., Raymond of Ontario, Ore.; three sisters: Mrs. Arvin (Laura) Deegan and Vera Graham, both of Corvallis, Ore.; two aunts, Ella Bouska of Haddam and Mrs. Earl (Helen) Potter of Washington. Services were held November 17 at Harrison Funeral Home, Tamma, Iowa, with Rev. Chet Davis officiating. Interment was in National Cemetery east of Vining, Iowa, with full military honors and flag folding cemetery of Reinig-Friedrich Post of the American Legion.
