Born in Detmold Township of McPherson County, Eureka, South Dakota, he was the son of Jacob and Marie (Humann) Sayler. Since 1971 he had been a resident of Eureka and prior to that farmed 12 miles northeast of Eureka. He was united in marriage to Alice Bauer on April 25, 1937. She died January 11,1975. His second marriage was to Ruth Marzolf at Eureka on July 14, 1977. Survivorsinclude his wife, Mrs. Ruth Sayler, Eureka; two sons, Joel Sayler, Eureka, and Ronald E Sayler, Bismarck, North Dakota; two step-sons, Jim Marzolf, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dwayne Marolf, St. Charles, Minnesota; one daughter, Mrs. Williard (Mary Lou) Hauck, Blunt, South Dakota; a step-daughter Mrs. Randall N (Marlene) Smith, Aberdeen, South Dakota; six sisters, Mrs. Ann Stickelmeyer and Mrs. Ida Stickelmeyer, Eureka, Mrs.Edward (Esther) Heupel and Mrs. Frieda Heupel, Aberdeen, Mrs.Leonard (Florence) Preszler, Tacoma, Washington, and Alice Delzer, Bismarck; one brother, Rueben Sayler, Yakima, Washington; ten grandchildren; and one step-grandchild and one great grandchild. Casket bearers were John Haas, Wesley Haas, Wayne hass, William Haas, Stanley Heupel and Stanley Bauer. Burial was in the City Cemetery, Eureka, under the direction of Straubs Funeral Home.
