The funeral was Sunday, February 16, in Trinity Methodist Church at Andrews. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Rowell was born August 22, 1908, a son of Mrs. Isla Rebecca Jeffords Rowell of Trio and the late William Thomas Rowell Sr. He was educated in Andrews schools and Carlisle Military Academy. He also attended the University of South Carolina. He owned and operated a general merchandise store, a cotton gin, extensive farm holdings, and a fertilizer distributorship. In 1957-60, he served the people of Williamsburg County in the House of Representatives. He was a member of Trio Methodist Church and also a member of Harpers Masonic Lodge No. 225 of Andrews. He was a member of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Education for Williamsburg County and was a past president of the Farm Bureau of Williamsburg County. Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Hallie Oree Boykin Rowell, whom he married December 22, 1932; his mother, Mrs. Isla Rebecca Jeffords Rowell; one daughter, Mrs. Roberta R. Benton of Columbia; four sons, Robert Rowell Jr. of Columbia; Thomas B. Rowell of Charleston, J. Victor Rowell and Norman J. Rowell, both of Trio; five sisters, Mrs. Ruthalee R. Wallace and Mrs. Ila Mae Williamson, both of Trio, Mrs. Martha R. Sarratt of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Marion R. McCormac of Georgetown, Mrs. Corinthia R. Truesdale of Denmark; two brothers, Horace L. Rowell of Columbia and W. T. Rowell Jr. of Trio, and a host of nieces and nephews.
