He was the son of W.C. and Augusta (Denker) Boeke. Erwin was raised in Hubbard, Iowa. He was confirmed at Saint John's United Church of Christ in Hubbard, Iowa. Erwin attended Hubbard School and graduated with the Class of 1935. After graduation, he worked on the farm as a hired man. He bought the Sinclair gas truck and worked until he went into the service March 1, 1942. On October 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lillian Girouex in Omaha, Nebraska, while he was attending mechanics school at Fort Crook. He was a member of the 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion during World War II. Erwin was stationed in Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisiana. He was overseas and participated in the battle of the Belgium Bulge plus two other major battles. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945. Erwin and Lillian began farming on his parent's farm southeast of Hubbard on March 1, 1946. Later they moved to the Louis Brunemeier farm and lived there five years. In 1953, they also farmed a farm in Ames, Iowa where the Animal Disease Lab is setting. Then in the spring of 1956, they moved to Radcliffe and lived on the A.M. Eller farm for five years. Erwin was hired by the Farm Service Company as a petroleum salesman and had a farm sale February 8, 1961 at which time they moved into Radcliffe. In 1993 they sold their house in Radcliffe and moved into the house next to the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe and worked for Mark Boeke until 1999. Erwin and Lillian then moved to Iowa Falls. Erwin was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls American Legion as well as a member and past Commander of the Hubbard and Radcliffe American Legions. He loved to garden, spending time with his family and his coffee buddies. Erwin Henry Boeke, age 92, passed away on Monday; June 7, 2010 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Ellsworth; Hamilton County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Lillian. His one daughter and son-in-law Don Jones all of Iowa Falls, Iowa. His three sons Carl (Debrah) Boeke of Lakeville, Minnesota. James (Ina) Boeke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Randall (Connie) Boeke of Highlands, Texas. His eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one step great-grandson. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday; June 9, 2010 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 am, Thursday; June 10, 2010 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Interment will be at the Hubbard Cemetery in Hubbard, Iowa. The Boeke Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
