As Mrs. Essie Ward, she passed away peacefully at her home near Climax, Kansas, May 18, 1943, after a very short illness, She was united in marriage to Mr. Elmer A.Ward February 21, 1898. The following children were born to this union; Mrs. Henry Ott, Lamont, Kansas; Mrs. E.C. Richardson, Toronto, Kansas; and Mr. Harold M. Ward of the home. Mrs. Ward has lived her entire life near Climax, Kansas. She was converted in her early life and joined the Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Order of Easter Star. Mrs. Ward was a devoted wife and mother and was a good neighbor. She will be missed by a host of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held from the Bairdd Funeral Friday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Phillip D. Novell. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Herald 27 May 1943 page 1.
