Description	:	Essie Murial Graves, 101, formerly of Otis, died Saturday at the Washington County Nursing Home in Akron. Mrs. Graves was born on Nov. 7, 1901, to Oley and Pearl Reams Norberg in Franklin, Neb. The family lived in several Nebraska towns before moving to New Raymer, where she entered the ninth grade graduating with the class of 1920. She married John W. Graves on July 14, 1923, in New Raymer. They lived in Longmont where her husband worked three years on the Longmont Daily Call going from there to Kimball, Neb., where he was shop foreman for the Nebraska Observer.... Mrs. Graves was born on Nov. 7, 1901, to Oley and Pearl Reams Norberg in Franklin, Neb. The family lived in several Nebraska towns before moving to New Raymer, where she entered the ninth grade graduating with the class of 1920. She married John W. Graves on July 14, 1923, in New Raymer. They lived in Longmont where her husband worked three years on the Longmont Daily Call going from there to Kimball, Neb., where he was shop foreman for the Nebraska Observer. In 1929, they purchased the Otis Independent from J.S. Tohill, where they worked together for 53 years prior to her husband's death. The John and Essie Memorial Scholarship was established at the Otis High School in their memory. Mrs. Graves, who was an accomplished musician, became the organist for the First Presbyterian Church in the early 1950s and continued for many years on a part-time basis. She also played the piano and cello. She liked hunting, fishing, boating and skating. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one sister, Clarice Johnson, and a baby brother in infancy. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Graves' memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Otis or to the Washington County Nursing Home of Akron. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Otis with Rev. Kelvin Boltjes and Rev. Clem Street officiating. Interment will follow in the Otis Cemetery with Brenner Funeral Home of Akron in charge of arrangements. Fort Morgan Times July 7, 2003
