Mrs. Whetstone was born September 9, 1909 in Cordova, SC a daughter of the late Arthur Brooks Sanders and Ella Smoak Sanders. Whetstone, 96 of The Methodist Oaks, Orangeburg formerly of St. George died Wednesday December 21, 2005 at her residence in The Methodist Oaks. Mrs. Whetstone was born September 9, 1909 in Cordova, SC a daughter of the late Arthur Brooks Sanders and Ella Smoak Sanders. She was a second grade teacher at St. George Elementary and at Bowman Academy. A graduate of Cordova High School and Lander College she was the widow of Oliver Fairey Whetstone. She was a member and steward emeritus of St. George United Methodist Church where she was past president of Methodist Women, Sunday School Teacher and she was a member of St. George American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving is a son, Arthur F. Whetstone, is wife Sue of Chattanooga, TN, two daughters, Joyce W. Flowers of Hilton Head, SC, and Phyllis W. Pendarvis and her husband Zonnie of Columbia, SC. Grandchildren; Greg Whetstone, Morristown, TN, Jeff Whetstone, Durham, NC, Cindy F. Cox, Joe Flowers, and Diane Flowers, all of Hilton Head, SC, Elaine Flowers of Cummings, GA , Joye P. Williams, North Little Rock, AR, Kaye P. Freels, Orange Park, FL, Elizabeth P. Henderson, Lexington, SC, and Alison P. Anderson, Columbia, SC. 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the St. George United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Washington Belangia officiating. Burial will follow in the Rowesville Cemetery, Rowesville, SC.
