Description	:	Esther Augusta Batt Frank was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Huntley, to Jacob and Augusta (Propp) Batt. Born in a barn that had been remodeled into a house, she spent her early childhood with her many cousins in Ballantine and Worden. Read More	Esther Augusta Batt Frank was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Huntley, to Jacob and Augusta (Propp) Batt. Born in a barn that had been remodeled into a house, she spent her early childhood with her many cousins in Ballantine and Worden. As a young girl she moved with her family first to Billings and then to Laurel where she made many life-long friends. She worked at JC Penney's Department store after her graduation from Laurel High School. Esther's city girl way of living changed when she met and married one handsome cowboy, Jake Frank and moved to the Frank family farm near Park City. They both got a good deal. Esther became a wife, mother and homemaker first and foremost. She cooked the best German meals, kept her four young children cleaned and scrubbed, curled her little girls' hair, sewed most of their clothes, and best of all, spent time teaching her children her skills. She invested her life into her family. Esther continually supported her husband in his efforts to make this world a better place. In the meantime, she was making her home a better place. She cared for her mother-in-law, who was no timid lady, for over 24 years and grew to love her and care for her. Whatever Jake decided to do, she was there to support him and to take up the slack in the family. She cooked for farming crews and canned and preserved from the garden. She cleaned and cooked for and entertained guests during the years of the Rocking J Guest Ranch. From the early 50's, she collected hundreds of signatures in her series of guest books for all who stepped inside the door as she opened her home to all. Mom became a born-again Christian in 1983. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident in everything she did and everything she said. There was no one with a kinder heart. She was a gracious, kind and warmhearted person with not a single mean bone in her body. Her family and her friends were of utmost importance to her. She kept track of birthdays and of her children's and grandchildren's activities. She always made sure you didn't leave her house hungry and sent food home with you to make sure. She found the good in people and welcomed all into her home. One time, Dad commented about a man, "He must be a terrible person, because Esther said something bad about him." Esther was a 4-H leader for the Park City Wranglers and struggled against the horse leader, Jake, to get her home ec members to finish their sewing and cooking projects when they would rather be outside working on our horse project. She was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church in Laurel where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Mom had music in the heart of her soul. She loved polka music and considered Dad the best dancer in the world. Played the piano for us and taught us to sing and play "by ear" on the piano. Before we had television on Saturday night, we would move the dining room table out of the way, turn on the phonograph with Polka music and she taught us to dance. When she was too weak to dance, she watched others dance. Saturday night was polka night for Mom and she rarely missed watching "Big Joe's Polka Party" on TV. She never cursed or raised her voice to us. In fact during her final hospital stay when she was in terrible pain, the worst we ever heard her say was "Oh my goodness." She gave us the best childhood anyone could have. Esther was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 65 years, Jake Frank. She is survived by her children Sheila (Marvin) Derheim, Leland (Linda Smith) Frank, Karen (George) Yost, and Kristie (Terry) Lawver; grandchildren Lori (Randy) Radford, Kurtis (Veronica) Derheim, Heather (Larry) Baker, Ty Yost, Brenda Lawver, Eric Frank Teri Lynn Lawver, Shawna (Cody) Wherley, Stacy Lawver, Katie Yost, Tanya Lawver, Kellie Yost, and Rachel Smith; two sisters, Lillian (Herman) Sorg of Columbus, and Laura (Lyle) Rupp of Laurel; and 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and numerous good neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at First Congregational Church in Laurel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Burial will be in Park City Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the First Congregational Church or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St.Vincents Hospital for the tender care and medical attention given to Mom during her illness, especially Drs. Bruen and Brady.
