Description	:	Esther E. Dirks, 89, of Columbus, Nebraska, peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the Columbus Community Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, at 10:30 AM, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Friday, from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Dirks was born December 23, 1929 in Platte County to Richard and Frieda (Depe) Janssen , the middle child of nine children. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Esther first worked for neighbors, helping with children and household chores. She also worked in Columbus at Jordan’s Bakery and B-D Medical prior to her marriage. She was united in marriage to Milton H. Dirks on July 26, 1953. They were blessed with almost 44 years of marriage and four children. Esther lived on her parents’ farm growing up and then on the family farm north of Columbus for 65 years for a total of 88 years as a farm girl. Esther enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, cooking and yes, cleaning. There was always an endless supply of cookies in the freezer for kids and farm helpers. She enjoyed babysitting grandchildren and family was her greatest joy. Esther was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she belonged to Ladies Aid, LWML, Church Choir, Concordia Guild, Christian Growth and Voter’s Assembly. She enjoyed music and sang with the choir for many years. Esther’s church family friends were a constant source of joy and support for her and she loved them dearly. Esther is survived by: Daughter - Kathleen (Fred) Siefken of rural Columbus, NE Son - Keith (Connie) Dirks of Lincoln, NE Daughter - Sherilyn (Mark) Raders of Norfolk, NE Daughter - Joyce Bennett of Cassopolis, MI 11 grandchildren - Ryan (Alison) Siefken, Heather (Eric) Hiner, Erin (Michael) Trotter; Seth Dirks, Noah (Amy) Dirks, Christina (Cody) Evasco, Jessica (Travis) Peters; Allison (Michael) Blackford, Bradley Raders; Nathan (Kristie) Bennett and Courtney Bennett 13 great-grandchildren - Ava & Henry Siefken; Kathryn, Lauryn and Madelyn Hiner; Alyssa and Lily Trotter; Jacob and Wren Dirks; Truett and River Peters; Avery and Andrew Blackford; and two greats on the way Sisters - Laverna Rickert and Shirley Wagner, both of Columbus, NE Brother - Kenneth (Betty) Janssen of Springdale, AR Sister-in-law - Willa Mae Janssen of Arvada, CO Sister-in-law - Lucille (Jerry) White of Lincoln, NE Many nieces and nephews Esther was preceded in death by: Husband - Milton H.
