Description	:	Esther Eloise, daughter of Frank L. and Anna M. Layman Point was born on a farm, now known as the Franzmeier farm, eight miles north of Newell, Iowa, December 17, 1893. Georgetown Hospital, Washington D. C. was the scene from which she took her departure to the eternal realm on January 3, 1946. Her earthly pilgrimage continued through fifty two years, seventeen days. In 1896 the family moved into Newell. Here Esther spent her childhood and youth and grew to the responsibilities of young womanhood. She completed high school took extra curricular work in music, declamation and also qualified for a teacher's certificate and for several years taught in Varina and rural districts in Buena Vista County. Her teaching work was concluded in 1914. The following two years were in service as assistant postmistress under Postmaster W. L. Holtz. In 1917 the period of heavy responsibility in her life began. A Civil Service examination was successfully passed and in November of that year she was called to report for work in Washington, D.C. An important assignment in the offices of the War Risk Insurance Bureau in World War I resulted, and rapid promotion was experienced. After the war demands lessened, she transferred to the department of Internal Revenue, serving in the statistical field until failing health necessitated her discontinuing government work after twenty five years. In recent years she did clerical work of a light nature, until severe illness compelled her hospitalization. Her father passed away October 5, 1934 and her mother in January 25, 1940. Of her immediate family only one sister, Mrs. Ethel Hobbie survives. There also remain several aunts, uncles and other relatives and a host of friends. In early childhood, Esther was received into membership in the Methodist Church. Her musical talent was early recognized in church and community circles and « he was in constant demand in programs of a civic nature. This feature of her life continued throughout the years and wherever she went to live she always contributed freely of her time in matters of community enjoyment and uplift. Her work among children was outstanding. Probably her chief joy for many years both here and elsewhere was in the work of the choir. Funeral services were held in First Methodist Church at Newell, where a former pastor, by her choice, Rev. Karl W. G Hiller, conducted the services, assisted by the pastor the Rev Nelson F. Grote.
