A mild case of sleeping sickness and the heat combined Tuesday to claim the life of Mrs. Esther Gilkison Dooley, 22 years old, of Ottumwa, who died shortly after the close of funeral services held for her sister, Mrs. Beulah M. Pottorff. Death occurred about 4:30 p. m. at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Gilkison, 427 South Milner street. She had been ill only about two days and her death was sudden and unexpected. While her father, brothers and other relatives attended the funeral services being held for her sister, Mrs. Pottorff, who died last Friday in Kansas City, Mo., following a surgical operation, Mrs. Dooley remained at home attended by her mother. As the Pottorff rites closed at the Johnson funeral chapel on Church street, Mrs. Gilkison called by phone to notify the family that Mrs. Dooley was worse. Her father left the funeral chapel at once for the home and other members of the family left the funeral procession. They arrived at the house shortly before Mrs. Dooley's death. She is survived by her husband, Waldo Dooley, to whom she was married February 23, 1930, at Albia; her parents; two brothers, Chester Gilkison of Kansas City, Mo., and Joseph of Ottumwa, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hawkins, of Sunnyside addition. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p. m. at the Johnson funeral chapel. The Rev. H. N. Dickson of the Free Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.
