Esther Grace Rook Hall was born May 31, 1921, on a farm near Leighton, IA. Her parents were Jacob (Jake) Rook and Wilhelamena (Minnie) Vander Wal Rook. Esther was a graduate of the Malcom High School class of 1940. She was married to Marlyn Charles Hall in 1941. They farmed in Poweshiek County near Malcom and Montezuma and in Tama County. They divorced in 1968. Later she lived in Marshalltown where she worked at the Bundy Motel. In 1988 she moved to Frisco, TX. Esther enjoyed bingo, gardening, playing card games and most of all spending time with her family. Her parents, a daughter Nancy Sumpter, and four brothers, John Rook, Albert Rook, Johnny Rook and Henry Rook preceded her in death. Surviving are three daughters, Deanna Selle of Frisco, TX, Barbara Scull of Newton, IA and Judith Peterson and her husband Bill of Plano, TX; a brother Peter Rook of Hemet, CA; six grandchildren, Rick Sumpter, Angie Overby, Chris Scull, Valerie English, Tracy Sumpter, and Brenda Acuncius; and four great grandchildren, Chance Overby, Olivia Overby, Grace Acuncius and Samantha English.
