The news of the death of Mrs. Brydon, which occurred Thursday afternoon about 5:20 o'clock, at the home of her son John H. Taylor, was sorrowfully received by her many friends in Waterloo, although not altogether surprising, as she was known to be very low for several weeks past. Mrs. Brydon was taken sick at her little store in town several weeks ago and was soon after removed to her son's home. She had been enjoying good health for one of her years until she reopened her restaurant and confectionery stand last fall. The work and injuries sustained in a fall several months ago effected her health and doubtless shortened her life. Everybody knew Mrs. Brydon and to know her was to love her. She was kind hearted and generous, perhaps to a fault, but certainly she had won and retained the esteem of all. We had but a short acquaintance with her, but in that short time we learned to regard her very highly. It was one of the objects of her life to help others, and she accomplished that end full as well as the average and better than many with greater means. Esther Dewhurst was born in England, April 24, 1827, and was therefore nearly 73 years old at the time of her death. She married James Taylor in March 1846 and eleven children were born to them. Mr. Taylor died in the spring of 1867 and later that year Mrs. Taylor came to America, settling at Newark, New Jersey, where she worked in Clark's thread mill and earned money to bring the children, only four having survived the father to this country. They came west in 1874 settling hereabouts, and Mrs. Taylor returned east later, again removing to Nebraska in 1882. She married J. B. Brydon in 1888 and for a number of years they conducted the meat market in Waterloo. Mr. Brydon died about four years ago. After that Mrs. Brydon remained in the meat market for a short time and later kept the confectionery stand, closing that afterwards and until last fall making her home with her son John. Only three children of the eleven born are alive: John H. and James D. Taylor, the latter of Omaha, and Mrs. George Hill, whose home is in Seward county. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church of this place, the procession leaving the home of Mr. Taylor about 1 o'clock, which will bring the services about 2:30. Interment will be in Prospect Hill cemetery.
