Description	:	Esther Anderson, age 92, of Bassett, NE formerly of Mills, NE died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Bassett Care Center. Esther Janette Dressen, the youngest child of four, was born to George and Agnus (Dudey) Dressen, on March 19, 1921 near Milburn, NE. She was raised in her family's sod home on the prairie near Milburn and attended District #100 known as Pleasant View, country school through the 6th grade. Read More	Esther Anderson, age 92, of Bassett, NE formerly of Mills, NE died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Bassett Care Center. Esther Janette Dressen, the youngest child of four, was born to George and Agnus (Dudey) Dressen, on March 19, 1921 near Milburn, NE. She was raised in her family's sod home on the prairie near Milburn and attended District #100 known as Pleasant View, country school through the 6th grade. She then went to school at Gates until entering high school at Milburn. She spent her senior year and graduated from Sargent High School, Sargent, NE. As a young woman, Esther worked at various jobs and while attending a dance, met the love of her life, Don Anderson of Taylor, NE. While visiting Don, who was stationed at Camp Cook in Lompoc, CA, they were united in marriage on February 11, 1943. She then traveled across the United States to be near him working wherever she could, including being a "Rosie the Riveter" on B-17's for the war effort. On their first wedding anniversary, Don was deployed overseas, following which she moved to and worked in Omaha, NE until her parents needed her at home. She lived with her parents until they were reunited in 1945. Don and Esther then began ranching with Don's father, near Almeria, NE. In April of 1955, they moved with their four sons to a farm and ranch they purchased at Mills, NE. For many years, Esther worked alongside her husband and supplemented their ranch income raising and selling fryer chickens and eggs from her laying hens. She loved her garden and in the early morning hours of each day you would find her tending her plants. Each fall she worked hard preserving the fruits of her labors for her husband and growing boys. Her hands were seldom idle as she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting and quilting. Even after they retired in 1985 and began traveling the United States and Canada in their camper, she took along her "canner" and sewing machine to keep busy. "This Grandma breaks for garage sales" was a saying her grandchildren can attest to. She loved finding a bargain and didn't miss out on many sales if the car was headed in that direction. In her 60's, Esther decided to learn to paint and discovered a hidden talent. Her special gifts of handmade quilts, paintings and crafts are treasures her family will enjoy for years to come. Her health began to fail in 2003, but she remained in her home until entering the Butte Nursing Home, Butte, NE in 2007. She became a resident of the Bassett Care Center in 2010, so Don could be closer to her after his move to Ainsworth, NE. Don passed away in June of 2012. A Christian woman, Esther was active at the Mills Community Church where she served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for many years. Throughout her life she loved music, playing mandolin, guitar and singing. In earlier years she often sang live on the radio with her sister, Dorine and later at many community events. Music stayed with her, even through her illness, as she was heard singing the night before she died. God and family were most important to Esther. For over 69 years of marriage she remained a loving wife, proud mother and grandmother! She is survived by her four sons: Gayal (Judy) of Norfolk, NE, Joe of Mills, NE, Randy (Sue) of Colorado Springs, CO and Tim (Denise) of Twin Valley, MN; nine grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Bea Cooper of Ainsworth, NE, Lois (Nick) Decker of Grand Island, NE and Virginia Anderson of Lincoln, NE; as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Don; her parents; a brother, LeRoy; sisters, Thelma (Ted) Daily and Dorine (Ray) Goehring; a granddaughter, Jenny Anderson; a daughter-in-law, Lennie Anderson.
