Dow Mrs. Esther Levinia Dow, 82, Berryton, died Friday at a Topeka hospital after a short illness. She was born Sept. 30, 1899, at Grant City, Mo., the daughter of Fritz Wilhelm "Friday" and Lazetta Pachunk Freitag. She came with the family to a farm in the Reading community when an infant and was reared near Reading. She later lived in Emporia before she moved to Topeka in 1957. She moved to the Berryton community in 1971. Mrs. Dow worked at Ben Franklin Store and later Falley's Super Market at 29th and California. She also worked at Skaggs at 29th and Kansas and for several years did private home care at Brewster Place before she retired in 1979. She was a member of Berryton United Methodist Church and Ladies Auxiliary to Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Topeka. She was a former member of Rebekah Lodge and Royal Neighbors of America, both in Emporia. She married Ray D. Dow at Emporia. He died in 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Norma Wassenberg, Marysville, Mrs. Beverly C. Wright, Topeka, and Mrs. Patricia Krohn, Berryton; a son, Fred Dow, Abilene; two foster daughters, Mrs. Betty Lyon, Emporia, and Mrs. Donna Kaniper, Reading; 13 grandchildren; seven foster grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six foster great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Tibbitts-Griffin Highland Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 89th and Ratner Road. Mrs. Dow will lie in state from 1 p.m. today until service time at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Berryton, 66409.
