Description	:	Esther M. Biggins was born in a sod house on January 6, 1914 to John and Mary Woehl. The family lived on a farm in Tripp County south of Colome, SD. She was the third of twelve children in the family. Two of her baby sisters died in infancy. In time the family moved to a farm south of Burke, SD, where Esther attended the Kenny rural school. Biggins was born in a sod house on January 6, 1914 to John and Mary Woehl. The family lived on a farm in Tripp County south of Colome, SD. She was the third of twelve children in the family. Two of her baby sisters died in infancy. In time the family moved to a farm south of Burke, SD, where Esther attended the Kenny rural school. She loved the outdoors and helped her father with the mowing, raking, harvesting and greatly enjoyed farm life. At the age of twenty she took a job in Winner, SD for the Volz family. She was in charge of housekeeping and quickly learned the art of cooking. While living in Winner, Esther met Furniss Biggins and they were married on November 27, 1938. The couple established their home in Bonesteel, SD, where they were Charter members for Zion Lutheran Church. They were very active members of the church and Esther taught Sunday school and was a member of the LWMS for many years. Esther was also a member of the Sunshine Extension Club, enjoyed knitting, crocheting, oil painting, and raising her flowers. Furniss was employed by the state highway department until 1953, when they moved to a farm south of Gregory, SD. Esther was employed at the Gregory Hospital and Community Bailey Hospital of Chamberlain as a nurse's aide from 1954 until 1984. Upon returning to Gregory, the couple enjoyed traveling, rock collecting, and gardening. Esther was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Gregory for many years and in later years became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Burke, SD where she and Furniss were first married. Esther passed away at Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, SD on February 24, 2012 at the age of 98 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Furniss, three brothers, six sisters, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
