Esther Mae Coffin was born July 29, 1924, near Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford Earl and Elma Faye (McLaughlin) Clark. She attended country school there until 1937 when the family moved to Plymouth, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1942. Following her graduation from Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, she worked for First National Bank there for several years. Esther was married to George H. Coffin at the Methodist Church in Plymouth on June 2, 1945. Following their marriage, the couple lived and worked in the Clear Lake/Mason City area until 1961, when George and Esther moved to Westside. Esther spent her children's young years at home raising them, and returned to work in 1968 with Metropolitan Agricultural Investments in Carroll. She retired from the firm in 1988. Esther was a member of the United Church in Westside, serving as an Elder, teaching Sunday school and Bible school, serving on many committees, singing in the choir and serving for many years as financial secretary. During her many years in Westside, Esther was also active in her church women's group, the American Legion Auxiliary and served as secretary to the board of Westside Senior Housing. Esther enjoyed gardening and flower arranging, bridge club and was an avid reader. Together, she and George enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing. Her greatest joy in life was always spending time and doing things with and for her family and friends. Esther is survived by her husband, George, and their three children, Ron and his wife Dixie, Rick and his wife Sue and Becky and her husband Jeff; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters.
