She grew up in Merna and earned her bachelor's degree in vocal music at York College, York, Neb. She taught elementary school in Kansas and Nebraska prior to her retirement. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Newton; Order of the Eastern Star, Merna, Neb.; and the Newton Treble Clef Club. She enjoyed singing and participating in church choirs where her husband served as pastor. She relaxed by painting and doing craftwork. She enjoyed following her children and grandchildren's activities through the years. Survivors (Private) She also was preceded in death by: a brother, Ervin Johnson; and three sisters, Gladys Jacobson, Maud Plummer and Fern Street. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lynn Sifrit will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorials have been established with the Salem United Methodist Church music department, in care of the funeral home.
