Veverka, daughter of Frank and Martha (Norris) Veverka, was born near Brooklyn in Poweshiek county, Iowa, April 26, 1898. She received her formal education in the rural school and the Montezuma Public School. On July 1, 1915 she was united in marriage to William Schlesselman of Victor. This union was blessed with three children. The couple was engaged in farming until 1940. In that year they moved to Victor where they have made their home. After a source of study of the Truths of Christian religion, revealed in the Sacred Scriptures and held and taught by the Lutheran Church, Mrs. Schlesselman was received into membership with St. James Lutheran church, Victor, by Holy Baptism Dec. 4, 1919, the Rev. William Ullerich officiating and she remained a member of this church until her death. As a member of this congregation she was actively instrumental in bringing others to the knowledge of the Savior and into membership with her church. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the congregation. She was in frail health for some years, and she realized that, with her heart ailment her life hung on a frail thread, as it were, for some time, and she repeatedly expressed submission to the Lord's will that she was ready to go whenever He called. Last Sunday morning, May 10, her life came to an abrupt ending when she succumbed to a heart attack and fell asleep in the Savior, as we confidently believe, departing this life at her home at the age of 72 ears and 14 days. The deceased is survived by her husband, William; two daughters, Dorothy Davis of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Julian (Thelma) Van Zele of Moline, Ill., six grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Alice Mulherin of Mason City and one brother, Raymond of Wabash, Ind., besides other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Violet, one sister and five brothers. As we observe Mrs. Schlesselman's answer to our Lord's summons into eternity, we bow our heads and pray. Services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor. Music was provided by Mrs. Clara Keller at the organ, "Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pall bearers were Harry Healey, Don Peska, Joe Van Quekelberghe, Alfred Danovski, Rudy Meyer and Leonard DeKesel with burial in the IOOF cemetery in Victor.
