A quartet composed of Mrs. Edwin Jepsen, Mrs. B.J. Behrmann, Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. Harlan Buffum sang, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Heaven is My Home". Walter Baumgartner read the following obituary: Mrs. Herbert Braase nee Esther Eggen was born April 27, 1903. She was baptized in the Lutheran church, Charter Oak, Iowa on June 20, 1903 by the Rev. Amstein. On the first day of April 1916 she was confirmed by the Rev. Reuben from Mapleton, Iowa. Esther attended the Lutheran parochial public school, the public school at Soldier and Mapleton. In 1922 she was married to Herbert Braase. To this union one son was born. Mr. and Mrs. Braase lived near Schleswig most of their lives, Mr. Braase being in the oil business. Mr. Braase was a devoted member of the local United Church of Christ, formerly known as the Evangelical Church. She was well liked and a devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Braase seemed to be in excellent health until shortly before Christmas. An exploratory operation revealed that cancer was so far advanced that only a miracle could restore health. She died Thursday morning at 5:15 am. During the last few weeks she had at her bedside Mindy Kuhn, a beloved nurse. Surviving are her grief-stricken husband, Herbert, one son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Braase, three grandchildren, Colleen, Darla, and Jena; Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eggen of Denison; three sisters and one brother; Heide, Mrs. Peterson of Charter Oak; Florence, Mrs. Roland Paulsen of Galva; Harold Eggen of Ute, Helen, Mrs. Ben Kroll of Sioux City and one sister in law, Mrs. Roland Struck. Burial was made in the Morgan Cemetery. The pallbearers were; Herbert Teut, Leonard Teut, Leonard Teut, Gordon Nahnsen, George Else, Albert Paulsen and Raymond Bahnsen.
