Ethel Beatrice Miller Tincher was born July 6, 1921. She was the only surviving member of the late John and Maude Hoke Miller family. Read More	ETHEL BEATRICE MILLER TINCHER On Friday, July 19, 2013, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston, a precious, beautiful heart stopped beating. Ethel Beatrice Miller Tincher was born July 6, 1921. She was the only surviving member of the late John and Maude Hoke Miller family. In addition to her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Edgar Tincher, on March 11, 2002, and a son, Timothy Allen Tincher, on May 15, 2013. Ethel came from an older generation that didn't believe in overusing the words "I love you" but there was no questioning her love and devotion for her family. Raising 6 children, she rose early and worked long, hard days to provide for the needs of her growing family. Her oldest son was born with cerebral palsy and she was told by the doctors he would never live past 12 years of age. On June 1, of this year he celebrated his 70th birthday. His long life and health are due to her constant concern and lifelong devotion to him. Like the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31, she raised chickens and harvested eggs, milked cows and made butter, helped put up hay, and a huge garden that got her family through the winter. She canned and froze hundreds of quarts of corn, tomatoes, green beans, sauerkraut, and pickles as well as peaches, apples, blackberries and cherries that she helped pick. Mom never sat at the table during mealtime when we were growing up, always too busy making sure everyone had everything they needed. She would give you the last dime in her pocket and went without the basic items we take for granted — new shoes, new clothes, new curtains — to make sure her family had all we needed. As she aged and became unable to do all the things she had once done, she still always put others' needs ahead of her own. She never quit worrying about her family no matter how old they got, always making sure we had eaten well, were safe, and had our hats, boots, and galoshes even if it was the middle of the summer. She always saw the good in everyone, and no matter how she felt she always woke with a smile and a warm greeting. Mom was part of "The Greatest Generation" and lived her life not for praise or glory but just because it was the right thing to do. She taught us responsibility, commitment, love, respect, patience, self-sacrifice, and kindness not so much by what she said but by her living example every day of our lives. In addition to all this she still had a feisty side, and at age 92 still had a quick wit, and could put any of us in our place if needed. She had a rare and quiet strength. At 85 years old she suffered a severe head trauma from a fall. The doctors had given her little chance for recovery, but with much prayer she did recover and lived pretty well for almost 8 more years. We were blessed to have her as our mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include 3 sons Jeff, with whom she made her home, and Jimmy, also at home, both of Crag, and Randy and wife Rita of Rainelle; 2 daughters Vada Clay and husband Ray of Meadow Bridge and Robin McQuain and husband Butch of Rainelle; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 22, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mike Whisman and Pastor Keith Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Tincher Cemetery at Crag.
