Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. n Monday, August 23, 1993 at the United Methodist Church in Faith with Rev. Charles Finney officiating. Burial was in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller. Ethel Berta Kintigh was born December 8, 1908 at St. Lawrence to James and Lena Mae (McCarl) Kintigh. She grew to young womanhood in Hand County, attending grade school there and graduating from Miller High School. After attending Eastern State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate, she taught in rural school six years in Hand County, four years in Mead County, and two years in Perkins County. She was united in marriage to Fred Schrader on June 29, 1939 at Deadwood. They began their life together on Cow Creek, northeast of Usta in Perkins County, where they raised horses and cattle. In March 1956, her husband died. Ethel continued ranching until 1982. Since then, she leased the land and continued to live on the ranch. She entered the Hillcrest Care Center at Hettinger, ND in November 1992. Ethel was an avid sportswoman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. She also enjoyed attending area basketball games, working with wood, and doing iron work. She was involved with organizing and editing both of the Faith Country Heritage books. Surviving are her six nephews, Eric Johnson, Rapid City, James Taylor, Wessington Springs, John Knippling, Gann Valley, Joe Knippling, Flandreau, Howard Knippling, Midland; five nieces, Janet Albers, Rapid City, Regina Mannix, Long Beach, CA, Helen Peterson, Holabird, Margaret Schnell, Romana, and Carol Ann Marsh, Beaverton, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters, Alice Knippling, Alta Johnson, and Dorothy Taylor. Special music was provided by Janet Albers and Eric Johnson. Serving as casktbearers were John Knippling, Howard Knippling, Darwin Hauser, Cory Albers, Curt Grace, and Jeff Taylor. All friends and relatives were considered honorary bearers.
