Description	:	Mrs. H.E. Van Roekel of Lennox, S.D., a former resident of this community, passed away at her home at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon following a stroke. While Mrs. Van Roekel had been in failing health for a number of years her death was very sudden and unexpected. A... Read More	Mrs. H.E. Van Roekel of Lennox, S.D., a former resident of this community, passed away at her home at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon following a stroke. While Mrs. Van Roekel had been in failing health for a number of years her death was very sudden and unexpected. Her daughter had gotten a sliver in her hand and Mrs. Van Roekel had attempted to remove it and after several attempts they decided to take the girl to a physician and while Mrs. Van Roekel was preparing herself to accompany her daughter to town she became seriously ill. A physician was called and left medicine for her and while Mr. Van Roekel was administering to her she passed away suddenly less than four hours after she became ill. Funeral services will be held at the home at 12:30 Friday afternoon and at the Methodist church in Hawarden at 2:30. Burial will be made in Grace Hill cemetery. Ethel Carrie Frank, eldest daughter of Mrs. Stella Frank, was born on the Frank farm, about six miles southwest of Hawarden, Aug. 7, 1886, so was some past 52 years of age at the time of her death. She spent her early life on the farm and attended the Petry school in Union county until she reached the seventh grade but after the death of her father she came to Hawarden with her mother to make her home. She attended the Hawarden high school after which she was engaged in the teaching profession in Sioux county for ten years. On June 13, 1915, she was united in marriage with Henry E. Van Roekel in this city and for a number of years after her marriage she lived in the Hawarden and Hudson vicinities. About ten years ago the family moved to Lincoln county and during the past years she has made her home there. She was the mother of three children. Her eldest daughter, Ardith, passed away in infancy. While a girl she united with the Methodist church in Hawarden and remained a member until death claimed her. Besides her husband she is survived by two children, a daughter, Bernice, 17, and a son, Curtis, 19. She also leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Mrs. Stella Frank, four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. A.J. Elbert, Mrs. Harley Marshall and Mrs. Roy Oden of Hawarden, and Elmer and Arlie Frank and Mrs. Earl Schmucker of Rapid City, S.D., besides a large number of other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Van Roekel possessed a kindly disposition and her interests were centered about her home and in caring for her family. For many years she had been in poor health but she always carried on, never giving up, ever looking on the bright side of life.
