Funeral services were held at the New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, with interment at New Hope Cemetery in rural Hayti. Funeral services were held at the New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, with interment at New Hope Cemetery in rural Hayti. Ethel Esther Stormo was born on April 18, 1922 to Chester Louis and Janette Johanna (Dekker) Olson in Dwight, North Dakota. She spent most of her growing up years in Watertown and in her sophomore and junior years she babysat in people's homes. In her senior year she took supervised occupations and worked at Paulis' Women's Ready to Wear. She was the only one in her family to graduate and did so in 1941 from Watertown High School. In 1942 she went to California with $12 in her pocket to go to Norman's sister's wedding. There she worked at a dime store, WT Grant, then she went to work at Douglas Aircraft as a jig driller. They made the skins for airplanes for World War II. Ethel then enlisted in the United States Navy (Waves) on March 23, 1943. In the Navy she went from California to New York to Oklahoma and Florida. She was medically honorably discharged on August 30, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida. She returned to Watertown and went to work making bomb adaptors then went back to Paulis'. On September 23, 1949, she married Norman Delbert Stormo at the Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1957 the family moved from Doc's farm to the Stormo Homestead. Ethel was strong and bold and a loving wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. She and Norm had celebrated 60 years of marriage. She was a member of the Den Mothers Cub Scouts, ALW, American Legion and Eagles. Ethel also was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school and was a past president of the Hazel PTA. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Lucille, Esther and Fern; 2 brothers, Otis and Edward. Ethel is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman; her son, Gregg A. (Sharon) Stormo; and her daughter, Clea R. (Bob) Urevig; her siblings, Earl (Leona) Olson, Robert (Ruth) Olson and Lillian Lane; five grandchildren; her step grandchildren, Wade Urevig and Colette (Bob) Krueger; 7 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
