Description	:	Ethel "Fern" HELT (04/07/1930 - 07/15/2016) Ethel "Fern" Helt - April 7, 1930 - July 15, 2016. Fern was born in Stevensville, Montana to Perry and Leola Van Vliet, the youngest of three. In her younger years, the family moved a lot and Fern had to take the first grade over. Fern was a... Read More	Ethel "Fern" HELT (04/07/1930 - 07/15/2016) Ethel "Fern" Helt - April 7, 1930 - July 15, 2016. Fern was born in Stevensville, Montana to Perry and Leola Van Vliet, the youngest of three. In her younger years, the family moved a lot and Fern had to take the first grade over. While living near Valley, WA, Fern went to Valley High School and met Derald Helt. After graduation, she attended Kinman Business University for one year and when Derald graduated they married on March 16, 1951. They lived at Loon Lake, WA and raised their three children there. Fern was a wonderful mom and homemaker. She sewed clothes for her family and made beautiful quilts. She loved Christmas and always made that a special time. After her youngest was in school, she went to work outside the home, first, as a teacher's aide at the Loon Lake Grade School, then assistant Postmaster for the Loon Lake Post Office; and lastly as a postal clerk at the Deer Park Post Office. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and secretary/treasurer for her church, and was secretary for the Stevens County Fire District #1. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Derald Helt; three children, Diana Blume, Spokane, Duane (Kathy) Helt, Spokane Valley, and Debbie (Dave) Newton, Gifford, WA; one brother, Dean Van Vliet, Florida; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Burial will take place on July 29th at Mt. View Cemetery in Colville, WA, at 2:00 pm. Memorial service will be July 30th at 1:00 pm, at the Loon Lake Grade School, with Ken Rozelle officiating.
