Description	:	Ethel Lucile Mangano, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at her home in West Berne, N.Y. She was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Horace, to Bert and Ethel Kline. She grew up and received her formal education in western Kansas and obtained a teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University. After college, she taught in one-room schools in Kansas. She was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Horace, to Bert and Ethel Kline. She grew up and received her formal education in western Kansas and obtained a teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University. After college, she taught in one-room schools in Kansas. In 1944, she married Joseph Mangano. Shortly after their marriage, he went into the U.S. Navy. After the war, they moved to Mahopac, N.Y., where they lived from 1946 until 1962. She taught fifth grade for 13 years in Mahopac and for three years at Haldane Public School in Cold Springs, N.Y. In 1963, they moved to West Berne, where she taught kindergarten at Berne-Knox School until 1973. She received her master's degree at the University of Oneonta over several years as a part-time student. Mrs. Mangano enjoyed traveling and had studied Shakespeare in England in 1977. In 1991, she traveled to Moscow, Russia through the University of Oneonta. She also went on several cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. An avid antique collector, she especially loved to collect antique toothpick holders and was an active member of the National Toothpick Holder Collector Society. She also was an accomplished gardener and an excellent cook. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Philip Mangano of Eagle, Idaho, and Robert Mangano of Petalima, Calif.; a daughter, Licile "Tish" Karpoy of Johnstown, N.Y.; a sister, Berta Adele Kline of Eagle; and four grandchildren. Funeral was Sept. 8 at Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont, N.Y. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Oct. 16 at Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, with the Rev. Les Ellis officiating.
