She was the fourth of six children and her early life was spent in that community. Read More	Obituary published in Manchester Press on Thursday, December 18th, 1952 Ethel Maude Moore, daughter of Edson Eugene and Ella Isabelle Moore, was born Nov. 21, 1880, on the old Moore homestead near Masonville, Iowa, and passed away Dec. 10, 1952, at the age of 72 years. She was the fourth of six children and her early life was spent in that community. She was educated in the local schools and when 18 years of age, on the marriage of an older sister, she assumed the responsibility of the home, as their mother had passed away when she was but seven years old. In 1906 the family moved to Masonville, where she became manager of the Masonville telephone exchange, which position she held for about 20 years. On March 9, 1926, she married William L. Carrothers of the Masonville vicinity. They made their home in Fayette for a few years, after which they moved to Grand Junction, where they have since resided. As a young girl she became a Christian and joined the First Baptist church of Manchester, Iowa. With the discontinuance of services in that church she attended and worked with the Methodist church, later joining it, and has been a faithful and active member of that denomination the greater part of her Christian life. In March 1929, she united with the Grand Junction Methodist church and was very active in the Sunday school and women's societies. She began as a teacher in the Sunday school on Oct. 1, 1930 and taught for 18 years. She was secretary of the board of education from 1939 until 1949, giving ten years of very efficient in that office. She worked in the Ladies' Aid and the Missionary society. When the Women's Society of Christian Service was organized she was the temporary secretary at the time of the organization. She was vice president for three years, secretary of the missionary education four years and secretary of literature and publications four years. She was a regular attendant and for many years gave the devotions at every January meeting. Mrs. Carrothers was a member of the Grand Junction Rebekah lodge, went through the chairs and held other elective offices in the lodge. She leaves to mourn her passing, her faithful husband, Wm. L. Carrothers; one brother, Frank Moore, Fort Doge, three sisters, Mrs. Clara Nash, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Mary Blaysdale, Falmouth, Va., and Mrs. Blanche Blount, Santa Ana, Calif., nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
