Ethel Maxine Quinn, 95 years of age, of Grand Island, Nebraska (formerly of Oxford) passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Golden Living Center – Grand Island Lakeview. Maxine was born March 9, 1920, at Huntley, Nebraska, the younger of two children born to Raymond and Lula Grace (Huston) Schroder. She received her primary education from a rural school in Harlan County, Nebraska and then attended the New Era School for two years. Maxine then attended Oxford High School, where she graduated with the class of 1937. Following her education, Maxine was united in marriage to Eugene R. Quinn in Philipsburg, Kansas on Sept. 24, 1938, and to this union four children were born: Richard, Kay, Max, and Kim. The family made their home in Oxford, where Maxine dedicated her life to being a homemaker, a loving wife, and mother. Camping was almost an every weekend affair with all the extended Quinn and Schroder families, trips to the mountains, and of course the Nebraska State Fair every year. After the children were older, she also worked as a teacher’s aide at the Oxford Elementary. On April 10, 1988, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, five months short of their 50th wedding anniversary. Maxine enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, and even mowing her yard, sometimes everyday in the fall, just to pick up the fallen leaves. Whenever she came to visit, you knew she had been there as she left a “motherly touch.” She was famous for her Sunday dinners. She also enjoyed going out for her favorite Chinese food, Mongolian Beef, which she always would order as, “Montgomery” or “Mahogany” Beef. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford. In June of 2005, she began to make her home at the Bickford Cottage in Grand Island and when her health began to fail on October 12, 2011, she resided at the Golden Living Center – Grand Island Lakeview. Besides her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by her son, Max Raymond Quinn in infancy on April 25, 1952; one brother, Edward Schroder and his wife, Iris; and several Quinn brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Maxine leaves to celebrate her life, her three children: Richard “Dick” Quinn and his wife, Carla of McCook, Nebraska; Kay Haffey and her husband, Gerald of Axtell, Nebraska; and Kim Wilsey and her husband, Philip of Grand Island, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Greg, Gina and Gary (Quinn), Angie, Jeff and Nick (Haffey), and Kyle, Mieke and Tony (Wilsey); 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
