Dean, living north of Villisca, passed away last Saturday, November 9, 1918 at the age of 4 years, 3 months, and 25 days. Her death was the result of Spanish influenza. Only three days later, the mother, Carrie Dean, aged 37 years, 8 months, and 5 days of age, died of pneumonia, developed from Spanish influenza. The funeral was held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, After prayer at the home, the body was brought to the cemetery here and laid to rest. The services conduced by Elder R. A. Bixler, were held at the grave. The mother, whose maiden name was Carrie Ritnour, was born February 27, 1881 and lived near Nodaway and Villisca all her life. She married William Dean. The couple had two children born to them, Willis and Etta. Mrs. Dean leaves to mourn her death, besides her husband and son, her father, living in Nodaway and eight sisters and three brothers. The hearts of all the friends are saddened and filled with deepest sympathy for the lonely father and son.
