Etta Ermina Lane, daughter of Margaret Bogard Reed and Seewell Reed was born Sept 24, 1877 on a farm 2 1/4 miles south of Weeping Water. She attended the Weeping Water public schools until age sixteen when her family moved to Omaha and lived there about one year. They returned to Weeping Water and made this her home until 1 1/2 years ago when Mrs. Lane took up her residence at Plattsmouth Manor where she passed away July 2, 1968 at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage on Sept 27, 1896 to Lemuel J. Lane at Weeping Water. To this union 8 children were born. One son Albert died in infancy. Her husband Lemuel passed away June 6, 1958. Mrs. Lane was a member of the Baptist church which later became the United Missionary church, also active as a Sunday School teacher for many years, a member of the Ladies Missionary group and Welfare Society. She was faithful in attendance until ill health prevented. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harry and Isaac, 3 sisters: Mrs. Carrie Wollen, Mrs. Ella Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Elizabeth Wright. She is survived by three sons: Lemuel, Weeping Water, Ralph of Millard, Lloyd of Lincoln; 4 daughters; Mrs. Max Richards, Portland, OR, Mrs. Helen Callahan, Weeping Water. Mrs. Lee Sluyter, Omaha and Mrs. Merle Davison, Weeping Water; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, other relatives and many friends.
