Fr. Greg Frankman will celebrate. Mr. Thiewes passed away on Monday, March 20, 2006 in a Sioux Falls Hospital. Burial will be in the Goodwin Cemetery, Goodwin, SD. Pallbearers will be: Ben Thiewes, Virgil Thiewes, Bruce Thiewes, Dean Thiewes, Andy Wellnitz and Blake Schafer. Music will be provided by Eileen Lindner, organist and the Holy Rosary Choir. Visitation will be in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to follow. The visitation will resume Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday at 10:00 a.m. to attend the services. The Houseman-Eng Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD is in charge of the arrangements. Eugene "Dude" Thiewes was born on June 10, 1935 to Peter and Anna (Hupf) Thiewes on the family farm near Goodwin, South Dakota. He was raised there and attended the Goodwin schools, graduating from Goodwin High School in 1954. Following his education, he began to farm with his brother Jim. On June 20, 1959 he was united in marriage to Patricia Sigrist in Kinmunday, Illinois. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Goodwin until his retirement. After retirement, he worked for Angus Palm for a few years. On February 2, 2006 Dude entered the Heart Hospital of South Dakota and was later transferred to the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Dude passed away there on Monday, March 20, 2006 at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 10 days. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, SD and of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed fishing and boating. Dude especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping his children fix things or work on projects. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia Thiewes, Goodwin, SD; three children: Pam Sherman and her husband Dennis, Goodwin, SD, Michael Thiewes and his wife Jean, Goodwin, SD, and Shelice Schafer and her husband Ed, Goodwin, SD; 7 grandchildren: Crystal (Cory) Steiner, Andy Wellnitz, Blake Schafer, Mikaela Schafer, Ashley Hankins, Becky Hankins and Ethan Thiewes; one great grandson, Noah Steiner; one brother Francis "Jim" Thiewes and his wife Evelyn, Goodwin, SD; and one niece, several nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Blessed be his memory.
