Funeral mass was Saturday, June 5, 2010, in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg with Father Ken Koster and Father Robert Krantz officiating. Pallbearers were his children: Connie Stoebner, Ben, Virgil, Bruce and Dean Thiewes, and son-in-law, Roche Stoebner. Francis Robert Thiewes was born May 26, 1929, to Peter and Anna (Hupf) Thiewes, on the family farm his grandparents homesteaded east of Goodwin and was raised a short distance from there on the farm purchased by his father. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg and lived what he professed and faithfully passed on that faith to his children and grandchildren. He loved God, his wife, Evelyn, of 58 years, his family and the land he farmed. Following graduation from Goodwin High School in 1947 and his marriage to Evelyn M. Raml in 1952, he owned and operated a dairy, stock cattle, and grain operation until his retirement in 1993. Jim was interested in church activities and served as a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight, and as an usher and greeter at church. He loved reading, watching the Twins play ball, stock car racing, wrestling and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother, Eugene "Dude" Thiewes. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Evelyn, and children: Connie (Roche) Stoebner of Watertown; Ben (Brenda) of Atwater, MN; Virgil (Mary) of Goodwin; Bruce (Shelly) of Clear Lake; and Dean (Shari) of Kranzburg.
