Description	:	Eugene was born on the family farm outside of Uniontown to Richard D. and Catherine Sprenger Stout. He was the second child of a family of three boys and three girls. As a child he enjoyed working with his parents and siblings on the farm, where he developed a lifelong love of farming and animals. His sophomore year he transferred to Colton High School, graduating... Read More	Eugene was born on the family farm outside of Uniontown to Richard D. and Catherine Sprenger Stout. He was the second child of a family of three boys and three girls. As a child he enjoyed working with his parents and siblings on the farm, where he developed a lifelong love of farming and animals. He attended grade school at Hall School, less than a half- mile from the farm. He attended Uniontown High School his freshman year by either walking or riding his horse the four miles to school. His sophomore year he transferred to Colton High School, graduating in 1937. On Nov. 27, 1941, he married the love of his life, Loyola Schumacher, whom he had known since childhood, as the Stout and Schumacher farms were near each other at the top of the Lewiston Hill. They were members of St. Galls and St. Boniface Catholic parishes in Colton and Uniontown. After a short wedding trip to Portland, Ore., they moved into a large brick house owned by Eugene's parents outside of Uniontown. There they spent the next 40 years, farming, ranching and raising their 12 children. In 1981 they moved to a new house they built near Thorncreek in the Uniontown area and lived there until moving to Lewiston in late 2007. Eugene was most at home when pursuing farming and ranching activities. He raised wheat, peas and barley, but most enjoyed working with his many animals, which included cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, dogs and horses. He continued these activities even in retirement until a few months prior to his death. He always raised a large garden for the family, and after the family was grown he continued to garden and especially enjoyed giving his produce to relatives and friends. Eugene and Loyola also enjoyed traveling and took trips to Tennessee, Hawaii, Canada and several other states to visit children and relatives. Travel also included a trip to Europe to visit several countries. Frequent camping trips were made with the family to the summer feeding grounds for the cattle in the mountains near Bovill. Eugene thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor life of a rancher. He also enjoyed dancing and playing bridge. For many years they were members of the Jolly Good Fellows, a Lewiston dancing group, and played bridge with friends from the Uniontown/Colton area. He enjoyed sports and played football for Colton High School and baseball for years for the Uniontown community team. He spent much time teaching his children to play sports and in later years attending sporting events where his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard D. and Catherine Stout; and a daughter, Barbara Higgins. Lewiston Tribune April 6, 2008
