Read More	Weekly Calistogan, June 22, 1922 E. L BINGHAM DIED VERY SUDDENLY Well-known Resident Passed Away Last Saturday Eugene L. Bingham, an old-time resident of Calistoga, died at his home on the highway last Saturday afternoon after a very short illness. He had been plowing most of the morning, but complained to his brother, Edward T. Bingham, of not feeling very well. At about 2 o'clock in the afternoon he took the team and went out to do some harrowing, but decided that he did not feel well enough to work, so put it up. He then went into the house and sat down, but finally, at the suggestion of his brother, lay down on his bed. After lying down, he said he felt better and thought it would not be necessary to get a doctor. His brother watched him pretty closely, spoke to him several times and he answered, but about 5 o'clock he spoke to him again and he did not answer, and going to his bedside, caught hold of his arm and found that he was about gone. A physician was hastily summoned, but before he could arrive, life was extinct. He died of heart failure. The deceased was a native of Illinois and had he lived until next month he would have been 75 years of age. The two Bingham brothers came to California in 1870 and after living first in Santa Barbara, then in Solano and Yolo counties, they came to Calistoga in 1882, and bought the property in the edge of town that has been their home for the past forty years. Neither of the brothers were ever married and they lived there together quietly and peacefully as brothers should do. Eugene Bingham was a good man and citizen and his word and his honesty in any respect was never questioned. He was thrifty and prudent and leaves considerable of an estate. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the undertaking parlor of A.H. McArthur and was attended by quite a large number of old-time friends and relatives. Rev. J.C. Bolster officiated at the services. Interment was made in the Calistoga cemetery. The sympathy of this community is with the lonely brother who is left.
