Eunice Elsa Miller, 92 years of age, of Castle Rock, Colorado (formerly of Alma) passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado. Eunice was born June 18, 1922 on the family farm eight miles northeast of Oxford in Harlan County, Nebraska. She was the eldest of three children born to William F. and Elsa I. (Grosse) Beck. Eunice was baptized as an infant at the home of Reverend John Beck and later confirmed at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford in 1935. She received her primary education from a rural school through the sixth grade and then attended Oxford Public School, graduating with the Oxford High School class of 1940. Following her education, Eunice was united in marriage to Alvah Lane “Pete” Miller at Compton, California. To this union two sons were born: Gary and Glenn. The couple made their home in Long Beach, California until Pete’s honorable discharge from the service. They then began to make their home on the family farm southwest of Atlanta, Nebraska, where they engaged in farming until Pete’s retirement in 1976. In 1978 they moved to Alma and made their home at 902 Division Street. Through the years, Eunice was employed by Holdrege Floral and then Stuhmer’s Ben Franklin in Alma. On January 28, 1990 she was preceded in death by her husband, Pete. On January 17, 1992 she was united in marriage to Carl A. Jochens of El Cajon, California, the couple later divorced. In 2008, Eunice began to make her home in Castle Rock, Colorado to be near her family. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Alma. Eunice enjoyed quilting, reading,bingo and playing cards. Besides her husband, Pete and her parents; Eunice was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Miller; two brothers: Ronald Beck and his wife, Malinda and Harold Beck; niece, Lorna Beck; and nephew, Kent Beck. Eunice leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons: Gary Miller of Denver, Colorado and Glenn Miller and his wife, Janice of Castle Rock, Colorado; two grandchildren: Brett Miller and his wife, Lisa of Castle Rock, and Renee Bracamonte and her husband, Rudy of Phoenix, Arizona; great-granddaughter, Ella Miller; great-grandson Rudolph Bracamonte III; sister-in-law, Barb Beck of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in Eunice’s honor and will be designated at a later date.
