Description	:	Eunice Gilbert Starks was the daughter of William F. Starks and Mary Elizabeth "Betsey" Sholtas. She first married Andrew Miller in Orleans County, New York. He died on November 6, 1864 fighting the Civil War in Fairfax, Virginia. The couple had four children, three surviving by June 13, 1865; Jane, Maria, and a 2-month-old son. Eunice was pregnant with the son when Andrew died. We only see Maria by 1870, then she is gone. Eunice married John Walter Key in Shelby, Orleans County, New York on February 6, 1866. They were all born in Orleans County. They migrated to Kansas, finally settling in Pleasant Grove Township, Greenwood County, where they farmed until their retirement. * * * * OBITUARY: (unknown newspaper) "Mrs. J W KEY died Tuesday March 3 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Combs. Mrs. KEY had been in poor health for some time but had been confined to her bed only a part of the time. She was visiting with her daughter at the time, the Father saw fit to call her home away from care and suffering into Peace and sunshine. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Combs Thursday by Rev. Rogers. Interment in the Neal Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community." * * * * OBITUARY: (Eureka Herald Newspaper, 12 MAR 1908) "Death has been in our midst and claimed Mrs. J. W. KEY from among us. Mrs. Key had been in poor health for some time and she seemed to get much better and Sunday Feb. 23 she went up to her daughter's, Mrs. Wm. Combs. She seemed to take suddenly worse Tuesday afternoon and passed away in a few minutes at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Combs, who was the only one present when she died. Mrs. Key was 69 years old and leaves an aged husband, two sons Walter and Ben, and one daughter, Mrs. William Combs and one grandson, Roscoe, whom she reared from infancy together with several other grandchildren to mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted Friday, by Rev. Rogers at the Combs home and she was laid to rest in the Neal Cemetery.
