Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, IA with Pastor Scott Duffus Officiating. Interment will be at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, IA. Eunice Laurine Skellenger was born on August 29, 1921 to Oscar and Clara (Groe) Moen at the home of Grandpa and Grandma (Amund & Johanna) Groe in Silver Lake Township. Eunice was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1939. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church. Eunice married Lynn Garth Skellenger on June 1, 1943 at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. To this union two daughters were born, Diane Rae and Carol Lynn. In 1940, Eunice started teaching in country schools, (Bristol 1&2, Silver Lake), Norway Township and ended with two years at Joice Community in 1956 for a total of teaching 16 years. Eunice loved helping Lynn, traveling, feeding her birds, gardening, and baking. The coffee was always on for family and friends with plenty of baking to eat. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Paul) Odegaard of Lake Mills, IA, two grandchildren, Adam and Molly; one sister, Addie Rolands of Lake Mills, IA; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Skellenger, Northwood, IA, and Virgil Skellenger, Houston, TX. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn, died May 2008; daughter, Diane, died May 1961; grandson, Jesse, died December 1982; brother, Clarence infancy; sister, Julaine Sydness Jellum, and three brothers-in-law, Ted Sydness, Clayton Rolands, Sandy Jellum.
