A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 14, at the Federated Church in Mitchell with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. A private family burial will be held at Mitchell City Cemetery prior to the service. Friends may sign the guest book from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, November 13, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. Eva was born May 28, 1916, to Clyde and Mary (Gompert) Johnson, in Sioux County, Nebraska, where she lived before moving with her family to a farm east of Mitchell. Eva attended Mitchell schools, graduating with the class of 1934. Following graduation, she worked in drug stores in Torrington and Scottsbluff. She worked at Blair’s Drug in Mitchell in later years. In 1938 she married Ruben Steinmark, and to this marriage two sons were born, Gary and Vern. Eva married Roy Hilyard in November 1944 at her parents’ home east of Mitchell, and to that union, Preston was born. Eva enjoyed hooking rugs for her children and grandchildren, having family dinners, and in earlier years she and Roy had a large garden which included many flowers. She was a lifelong member of the Federated Church, a member of the CC Circle, and she loved her sewing club. Eva is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Linda Hilyard of Kearney, Vern and Cathie Hilyard of Georgetown, TX, and Jean Hilyard of Scottsbluff; brother, Clyde and his wife, Evelyn Johnson of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Troy (Tracy Schweich) Hilyard, Chad (Jenny) Hilyard, Phil (Tory) Warrick, Scott (Brenda) Warrick, Matt Warrick, Anne Hilyard, Todd (Brandi) Hilyard, Jenny (Justin) Bohl, and Mandy (Matt) Brown; 12 great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and one great-great grandson. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; her sisters, Elberta and Eloise; her brother, Edgar and infant brother, Herman; and her son, Preston.
