Description	:	Eva Rachel Kimes was born March 17, 1872 to Joseph and Emaline (Morford/Harrington) Kimes in Adair, Iowa. Eva's mother Emaline died between 1880 and 1883, prior to her father's death on January 21, 1883. Emaline was not part of Joseph's estate petition. The 1885 Johnson County census shows Eva (about age 11) living with Mary (Cross) Morford, wife of John J. Morford in Pleasant Valley Township. John and Eva's mother Emaline were siblings. The 1885 Johnson County census shows Eva (about age 11) living with Mary (Cross) Morford, wife of John J. Morford in Pleasant Valley Township. John and Eva's mother Emaline were siblings. Mary would be Eva's Aunt. It is unknown where Eva's brother Lewis was living or why he wasn't also taken in by his Aunt Mary. An 1887 City Directory for Wichita, (Sedgwick County) Kansas shows Eva was living with and working as a domestic for John Mendenhall. Eva was only 15 years old. 1889 records show Eva continued to live in Wichita. On June 13, 1891 Eva married Henry Ellsworth McCune in Johnson County, Iowa. Witnesses to their marriage was Albert Barnes and Mary Barnes (husband and wife). Eva and Mary were cousins. Mary's mother is Nancy (Cross) Kimes. Nancy married Uriah Kimes, brother of Eva's father Joseph. Mary Morford and Nancy Kimes were sisters. Eva and Henry had four children: Lillian Eva (McCune) Whetstine/Abbott/Albruskey (1893 to 1949), William Henry Sherman McCune (1894 to 1956), Thomas Wesley McCune (1899 to 1915) and Clarissa (McCune) Hodge/Whetstine (1901 to 1941). Note: Lillian married Nicholas Whetstine and Clarissa married Tony Whetstine. Unable to determine family connection. 1900 census shows Henry (age 34) and Eva (age 27) living in Pleasant Valley Township, Johnson, Iowa with children Lillian (age 9), William (age 6) and Wesley (age 1). Henry's occupation was Farm Laborer. 1910 census shows Eva (age 39) living at 1800 Dunham St. in Des Moines Ward 6, Polk, Iowa with niece Pearl Sumerhays (age 19), nephew Donald Sumerhays (age 2); children Lillian (age 17), Willie (age 15), Wesley (age 12), Clarissa (age 9); granddaughter Irma Miller (age 9) and a lodger Joe Cowwell (age 24). Eva's occupation was Washer Woman. Willie's occupation was Press Feeder for Printing Office. Census shows Eva as widowed. 1920 census shows Eva (age 47) living in Johnson County, Iowa with daughters Lillian E. (age 24) and Clara Hodge (age 18); granddaughter Erma Whitstine (age 10) and roomer William M. Coil (age 63). Occupations for Lillian and Clara was General House Cleaner. William's occupation was General Laborer. Census shows Eva as divorced. Note: Eva's step-sibling Charles Harrington married Ida May Comstock. After Charles' death, Ida married Archie Coil. There could be a family connection to William. Eva died January 26, 1927 in Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, buried on January 28th in Pleasant Valley Cemetery (aka as Sandtown or Morfordsville Cemetery) in Johnson County, Iowa. Cause of death septicemia, contributed by suppurative arthritis aka septic arthritis. Eva is not listed on the cemetery's marked grave directory making her grave either unmarked or no longer visible. Henry died February 2, 1932 in Iowa City, Iowa and was buried on February 4th at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
